The University of Connecticut at Storrs (Main Campus) has an open vacancy for an Associate/Full Professor for faculty appointment in our Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology program for our school counseling program in the Neag School of Education. 

Our school counseling program has a mission and vision to train pre-service masters students in the profession of school counseling with a social justice and education equity focus along with the ability to work with diverse and underrepresented populations, particularly in schools and communities that are urban.

Associate/Full Professor in School Counseling

The Department of Educational Psychology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in school counseling at the rank of Associate, or Full Professor. The successful candidate will have a leadership role in the Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology program.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach appropriate courses in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology, conduct research in school counseling or school counselor education, engage in scholarly activities, provide leadership within the Counselor Education program, and participate in outreach and service activities including support of the CACREP accreditation process. In addition, the candidate will be expected to obtain external funding to support research efforts in his or her areas of expertise.

In addition to the program in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology, the Educational Psychology department has programs in School Psychology; Special Education; Research Methods, Measurement, and Evaluation; Cognition, Instruction, and Learning Technology; Giftedness, Creativity, and Talent Development; and Educational Technology. We seek candidates who would like to join our CACREP-accredited program.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities include teaching courses in the school counseling program; advising graduate students; engaging in research, including securing extramurally funding to support research efforts; providing leadership within the school counseling program;  and contributing to the program, department, school, University, and State through service and outreach.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision or related field from a CACREP accredited program
  • Relevant counseling experience in K-12 settings

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous school counseling experience in K-12 public schools
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Experience providing clinical supervision in an academic setting
  • Administrative experience and program development skills
  • Interest in program development and program coordination
  • Membership and involvement in professional organizations such as ACA, ASCA, and/or ACES
  • Active research program in the field of counselor education and supervision
  • Strong scholarly record commensurate with the desired rank (Associate/Full), including record of publishing research in peer reviewed journals and record of securing external funding
  • Knowledge of CACREP accreditation process
  • Experience advising graduate students
  • Commitment to cultural diversity and social justice

 

 

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2020.  The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the possibility of work at UConn’s regional campuses across the state.  Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
