I am currently a graduate student at Sofia University in Palo Alto, CA (low residency program so I live in Houston, TX). My undergraduate degree is from New York University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.
My work experience is diverse and includes employment in the following fields: customer service, education, legal, mental health, retail sales and Web design.
I have worked in the mental health field as a dual disorder assessment counselor for the Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston (now known as the Council on Recovery) on site at MHMRA SE clinic. There I facilitated groups on substance abouse and mental health, teaching psychosocial rehabilitative skills such as relapse prevention, triggers, and medication management. I also worked in the field with the SE clinic as a rehab clinician. Duties included case management, community referrals, and teaching psychosocial rehabilitative skills to my clients. Finally, I worked at the SW clinic at MHMRA as a phone (crisis) counselor. There I counseled suicidal counselors, referring them to their local emergency resources. I also referred callers to community resources or services at MHMRA.
As a part of my graduate studies, I am working at Youth and Family Counseling Services in Pearland, TX where I work with adult and juvenile probation, homeless youth, and families teaching parenting skills among other populations.
I truly enjoy counseling others and feel a moral obligation to help others who struggle with their mental well being with symptoms such as anxiety, depression and mania (bipolar symptoms). With my personal struggles with the described, I feel that I am amply qualified to counsel this population.
