Participant Recruitment Letter

Dear Psychiatrist, Psychologist, or Licensed Counselor,

My name is Stephen Wise, and I am a doctoral student (PsyD) at California Southern University, Psychology Department, School of Behavioral Sciences.  I am writing to invite you to participate in my research study about the issues of sexual identity, stigma, and overall psychological wellbeing of gay men who had at least one parent with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) or NPD-like traits.  Gay men will not be interviewed for this study; however, the therapists that treat them due to the issues resulting from an NPD parent will be.  You are eligible for this study because you are a licensed psychiatrist, psychologist, or counselor in the state of Georgia, with at least 5 years in practice, and you are currently treating a gay male client with the aforementioned issues.

If you decide to participate in this study, you will be interviewed by me, either by telephone or teleconference resources such as Zoom, about your experiences treating these gay men.  The interview will not be videotaped, but it will be recorded.  The information derived from this is interview will be combined with the data gathered from other research participants to determine the psychological effects of an NPD parent on the development of sexual identity, stigma, and overall psychological wellbeing in gay men.  This data will help therapists develop strategies to assist therapists in treating this category of gay men.

Your participation is voluntary and confidential; it is your choice whether or not to participate.  If you choose to volunteer to participate in my study or have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at MarkStephen.Wise@my.calsouthern.edu or (470) 435-1547.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Stephen Wise, Doctoral Candidate
